Maths

Psalm 90:12

"So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom."

The subject leader for mathematics is Mr S.Beaumont

At St Annes, our intent for the teaching of mathematics is to instill a deep understanding and appreciation of the subject in all pupils, fostering confidence and proficiency that will enable them to solve problems and reason mathematically in everyday life. We aim to:

  • Develop a Love for Mathematics: We believe that mathematics is not just a subject, but a vital skill that opens doors to opportunities in life. Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity and enthusiasm, ensuring pupils view maths as an engaging and relevant discipline.
  • Ensure Mastery for All: We are committed to the principle of mastery, which involves ensuring that all children develop a robust grasp of mathematical concepts. Each topic is broken down into manageable parts, allowing pupils to build on their knowledge incrementally, ensuring strong foundational skills.
  • Promote Mathematical Thinking: Our intent is to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, encouraging pupils to ask questions, explore various methods, and engage in collaborative discussions that deepen their understanding.
  • Inclusive and Diverse Curriculum: We recognise the diverse backgrounds of our pupils and strive to provide a curriculum that reflects varied perspectives and real-world applications of mathematics, thus ensuring that each child can see themselves in their learning.

At St Annes we use White Rose as a basis of our maths lessons. This is an exciting class mastery approach that works for our children.  It is based upon the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach. We adapt the teaching and learning within maths sessions to ensure coverage can be taught to all children.
